Carbon Poker Review

Carbon Poker has been around since 2005 but went through a rebranding process in 2007. It is running the Merge Gaming Network. It offers many variations of poker, from NL Holdem to 5 card draw as well as one of the few poker rooms still open to US players. At Carbon Poker you can also take part in our Carbon Poker Rake Chase with $10,000 up for grabs at time of writing!

POSITIVES

If you like low to medium stakes NL Holdem then this is a very good poker room. The tables are fast and the players quite loose in their attitude. The traffic ranges from about 3-13k players at one time so you should be able to get a game at a time that suits you.

Software

This is by far the best thing about this poker room. The software is extremely stable and function packed. Based on a flash module, everything is very clearly set out, intelligently designed which makes for a better user experience. Pretty much everything you could need is available from the lobby screen split. Table searching is easy partly again to the display but also to the very easy to use filtering system.

Tournament Lobby

What hits you about the lobby is how clearly everything is displayed. On reviewing some of these poker clients I normally find myself straining at the screen looking for the games I want. The tabs across the top together with the legend on the right make it all very easy to do. You are also able to sign up to the $50,000 free role from here!

Easy deposit

As you can see from the screen shot, Carbon Poker has pretty much all of the usual deposit options which again are clearly displayed and easy to use.

Bonuses and Rakeback

There is a deposit bonus of 100% up to $700 dollars which is good. There are leader boards for both MTT and SnG standings. There is the usual fan fair of VIP points which can be used to enter tournaments or be exchanged for goods at their shop. Lastly, they have a royal flush bonus which pays out 1000 x the big blind of whatever table you are playing at

For Carbon Poker you will receive 30% rakeback.

Other Features

Once at a table, the information screen is clearly visible in the bottom left hand corner. Here you have the option to turn the animations on or off, look at table information or add a smiley if you like! One of the rarer features is the ability to run the hand twice which is a very nice touch.

Support

Support wise, there is only e-mail support. They are very responsive however and will generally respond to your query within a couple of hours.

NEGATIVES

Traffic

Depending on the type of limits you were looking to play you may well be disappointed. The site is relatively strong for NL Holdem and Omaha Hi games but can feel like a ghost town on the stud and Omaha Hi-low tables. If these types of games are not really of interest to you then you should not find a problem finding a game!

Hand History

Many poker sites tend to no rank this high priority enough. The poker rooms that do seem to get more traffic... I wonder why!

Limited tournaments

To conclude then, I would say this is a very nice looking poker room, choc full of features and is very easy to use. For beginner players this would be an ideal room to learn in especially for the micro limit NL Holdem tables. Once it has managed to attract a few more players (I imagine most of the newer ones will be US players) this will be one of those sites I can see me playing on.
