PKR Poker Review

Well PKR Poker hit the poker world with much fanfare in 2006. They promised to change the way that people play poker and having this type of poker room out there certainly does add to the whole experience to playing online. The site is available to non US players only.

POSITIVES

This is by far the most visually stunning poker room on the internet today. There are a couple of 3D poker rooms out there but PKR is certainly the best of them. The software allows the user to create an Avatar. This is the part that's so different from other poker websites, you can literally choose from 100's of pre determined configurations for your character. Build, hairstyle tattoos and even accent are all customizable from this menu. Once your character is made you are ready to sit at a table.

Software

This is by far the best thing about this poker room. The software is extremely stable and function packed. Based on a flash module, everything is very clearly set out, intelligently designed which makes for a better user experience. Pretty much everything you could need is available from the lobby screen split. Table searching is easy partly again to the display but also to the very easy to use filtering system.

Competition

This is an interesting part of the poker room. As this room is being sold more on the experience of playing poker rather then on the win big money philosophy of other poker rooms it attracts a rather different clientele. In a nut shell players that care less about their win rate then how much fun they have. People are not here to grind! Why would they be? You could double the number of hands played an hour on other sites.

Deposit/Withdrawal

No Surprises here with all of the usual payment methods accepted without any issues. Options range from E-wallets (Neteller and the like) to credit/debit cards (Visa & MasterCard) and bank accounts.

Bonuses and Rakeback

The Bonuses at PKR are very good. You have 100% deposit bonus up to $800 which is above average for the industry although you only have 60 days to clear the bonus. You are also able to collect PKR points which can be exchanged for stuff from their shop or used for tournament entries. You need to collect 100 PKR points for each $1 in rake collected. For some of the bonuses this can be more.

There is also a depositor's $1000 free role. As the traffic at PKR isn't as big as on the more established poker sites these tend to have a small field and is therefore very good value. Once you have reached 3000 PKR points they also send you a poker strategy book in the post.

PKR poker also allows players to collect rakeback which currently stands at 30%

The rakeback offered is 30% and about average for the industry.

Other Features

There is a huge array of options present once you've sat down at a table; everything from what angle to view the table to your table demeanor (happy, sad angry etc). Once you are sat down at a table you can do everything from compliment your opponents play to calling them chicken... maybe even winking at them in between! After a while, the menu music becomes annoying but the great thing is it's easy to turn it off! That's the great thing about the site architecture; everything is where you would put it if you were making it which makes it such a joy to play around with. It's the richness and vibrancy of the colours and the characters that really sets this poker room apart from the rest.

NEGATIVES

Game Variety

The number of games available is a bit of a let down considering there are only 3. With modern poker clients becoming more and more competitive and feature rich it's a shame there isn't a little more on offer here from such a nice looking website. That being said I can only imagine the site increasing in popularity and the extra games added.

Game Speed

Ok this has to be mentioned. This site is primarily about a finer poker experience and goes about that very well. It is not conducive to multi tabling. There is so much going on with the banter and the taunting (never mind the flirting!) that the pace of the game is a little slower than in other poker rooms. There are 2-3 animations per person per round minimum. Comparing that to a flashing light on other platforms it is always going to be slower.

Download Size

The 512MB download is pretty big and might take a while if you are on a slower connection. The helpful people at PKR will put a disk in the post to you if you do have issues downloading however.
