Rakeback Information
What is Rakeback?
Rakeback is the proportion of the amount a player has contributed in Rake refunded to them. The percentages normally on offer range from 25-50%.
Therefore if you were contributing $1000 to the Rake and received 40% rakeback you would receive $400. Poker rooms will not openly advertise to players on their website that these deals exist (why would they? You found their website without them having to offer you money back?!)
You will normally have to sign up for rakeback through an affiliate. These sites sign players up on these deals and inform the website the player is now a part of their affiliation. The affiliate wins on both counts as it is doing the poker site a favour by sending more players to it, whilst offering money back to the player signing up. The affiliate makes money by receiving a percentage of your rake. So if you signed up for Full Tilt Poker thorough an affiliate, you would receive your 27% rakeback, the affiliate would a few percentage points above that (say 3%) and the remaining 70% stays with the poker site.
Not all poker sites calculate your rake in the same way so make sure you read about how they calculate the rake before you commit yourself to any given site. Some sites require you to just be dealt into a hand in order for them to allocate a proportion of that hands Rake to you, whilst some require you to make a contribution to the pot.
Who should sign up for rakeback?
Everyone! There is no good reason not to sign up to one of these deals. You may find that you are unable to receive rakeback on an existing account as you have to be new to a website in order to qualify. If that's the case we would recommend you seriously look at playing at a different poker room, the financial benefits of rakeback are just too big to be ignored especially if you are playing a reasonable number of hands each month.
